new statistics out in Boxing Monthly - 15/07/2010

 New stats out in this months issue of boxing monthly show that from 2005-2009, memberships at local boxing clubs rose by more than 170%, from 7,000 to 19,000. In the last year alone, boxing has been introduced to 200 schools, boosting the total from 20 to 1,951 in the same four years leading to 2009 (we were one of the first gyms to go back into the schools). These stats are amazing. With the success of Amir Khan in the olympics and now in the pro's, and the 2008 olympic squad also, boxing is getting a great shot in the arm. These numbers only measure amatuer boxing and school stats, but there is also a huge growth in the amount of people, both men and women, doing it for fitness and self defence.

          In the united states the number of gyms offering some kind of boxing traing at their facilities rose from 5% in 1996 to 78%  by 1999. This trend has also picked up here in the U.K.  In our gym at any one time you can and do have buisness men, housewifes, amatuers, builders, office workers all training at the same time. Boxing training now seems to have a whole new following of people, it's not the sport of smokey cigar filled rooms with a crowd mostly of men anymore. It's now become a sport, and a way of keeping healthy, that's attracting men, women, and boys and girls alike.

        The fact that everyone who trains here at the boxing academy meet up for events that we put on, means that everyone gets behind the amatuers when they box. The team realy like the support they get, and the members love to go and see the guys that they train with boxing. So, good news all over, boxing is on the up. coaches weekend august 20th - 14/07/2010

 There's four signed up so far for the coaches weekend course running at the boxing academy this comming August 20th. The weekend will run from friday night to sunday afternoon.
